Dear European fellows, the people of this country claim your attention. We suffer under the oppression of corrupt politicians, who established laws that prevent us from kicking them out, who exploit our work turning us into slaves, who deprive us of our means of subsistence and aid when we retire.
On behalf of everything Rome and its legions accomplished in the entire continent and in the name of the history and culture that bind us together since those glorious ancient times, we ask you to set a European army ready and invade our country to help us getting rid of this tyranny and set us free.

Fratelli d’Europa, il popolo di questo paese è schiacciato sotto il tallone di una classe politica corrotta che ha creato leggi che ci impediscono di cacciarla via, leggi che sfruttano il nostro lavoro come schiavi e ci privano della meritata sussistenza nella nostra vecchiaia. In nome di quello che Roma e le le sue legioni hanno fatto per questo continente, in nome dell’antica fratellanza storica e culturale, vi chiediamo di allestire un esercito europeo ed invadere il nostro paese per liberarci dal giogo di questa tirannia.
Fateci sapere il giorno preciso, così facciamo i distratti e lasciamo le frontiere aperte e i carri armati con i cingoli sgonfi. Fate girare questo appello.
In preparazione del vostro arrivo ci mettiamo a cucinare un pranzo di benvenuto che non dimenticherete mai, così vi facciamo assaggiare la vera pasta al dente e la mozzarella, che quella che avete voi, senza offesa, fa anche un po’ schifo.

It’s symptomatic that even those of us who are awake and aware, who are concerned and perhaps still hopeful against all odds, are still falling back (albeit tongue in cheek) into that most Italian of attitudes: there’s nothing we can do, let’s hang on to others, let’s wait for someone else to come and rescue us. To show us the way.
I don’t blame them, I have been daydreaming of military invasion by the like of, say, Sweden or Spain, or any other decent European country for years now myself.
There’s not much that lies ahead for us, honestly.
Is there anything we can do?
(The question is not completely rethorical.)

We are a pitiful people, unable to stand against the lack of honesty and culture (yes, culture; and don’t give me any escapistic shit about the Renaissance and so, thank you) that plagues the country.
We can’t beat the idle, colluded nature of a crass nation whose people wear ignorance as a badge, prefer easy lies to doubt, revel in petty violence and sexism.
We are a disgusting breed, who just needs to roll over and die.

And tomorrow I’ll be back to taking photos of the cute stuff that help me get along.

È sintomatico come anche quelli di noi che sono vigili e consapevoli, che ci tengono e forse ancora sperano, ricadano (anche se per satira) in un italianissimo atteggiamento: non possiamo farci nulla, affidiamoci ad altri, aspettiamo che qualcun altro venga a risolverci le cose. A mostrarci la via.
E non c’è da biasimare: sono anni che vagheggio di invasioni militari svedesi, o spagnole, o di un qualsiasi paese europeo rispettabile.
Non abbiamo grandi prospettive.
Possiamo farci qualcosa?
(La domanda non è del tutto retorica.)

Siamo gente patetica, incapace di far fronte alla mancanza di onestà e di cultura (sì, cultura; e non venitemi a dire cazzate escapiste su Rinascimento e compagnia, grazie) che piaga il paese.
Non sappiamo superare la natura imbelle e collusa di una nazione volgare e ipocrita, che si fa vanto dell’ignoranza, preferisce bugie facili a qualsiasi dubbio, sguazza nella grettezza, nella violenza e nel sessismo.
Siamo un popolo disgustoso, a cui resta solo di voltarsi dall’altra parte e morire.

E domani si torna a far foto alle cose carine che mi fanno tirare avanti.
